Perception

I have heard time and time again that life is based mainly on perception. The perception of people, places and situations. It is quite interesting to sit back and think about how the perception of one varies so much when compared to another's perception. If we are living in a world where perception is the most common place reliance to someone, what happens when we assume that everyone sees reality as we do? What happens when we forget that our perception is not always a shared one? I find myself in this conundrum often as my perception versus others perceptions are often very different.

I attribute this to my shift towards a more positive outlook. I do tend to lean more towards the glass being half full, making the most of situations, and maintaining a level of gratefulness while staying humble. This is my perception of how life should be lived; I do not believe, or condone, a life of being miserable or one that is weighted down with cynicism. Yes, I can be a great cynic at times but I try to again relate it to my perception. Do I have bad days? Yes. Do I sometimes feel like I cannot catch a break? Yes. Do I often wonder if I have made the best life decisions? Yep. Yet, I also know that the things that have torn me down, tried to break me, or discourage me from achieving what my mind is set to were all obstacles that I have overcome. Life is not easy. At least I have never claimed that it is but why spend all of my precious time focusing on the negative? Again, my intention is to take the good with the bad, apply what you can use, leave the negative behind and keep moving forward. I also know that sometimes perceptions change. It is like the dreaded first impression that completely flops. We've all been there: walking into a room full of strangers and tripping, looking a complete mess and inevitably running into someone in the store that you would rather die first than them see you with the messy bun, sweats and stained t-shirt being rocked. You've just put that perception out there for people to run with. I ask myself, once I have a perception of someone, something, or some place - do I allow my perception to be changed over time? I am getting better about it. As I grow and learn I understand that sometimes first impressions or perceptions are not reality; sometimes these perceptions are the farthest thing from reality. Yet sometimes people take that first perception and its final. Are our realities not evolving right before our eyes each day? I know mine changes daily and I am thankful for that because that is a new opportunity to grow, to learn, and to experience new things. I think this also comes with my growing level of tolerance and understanding. Or maybe I accept the change of perception easier now.

Of course my 'glass half full' perception of events, things, situations or even people can be off at times. More times than I would like to admit. I am human and unfortunately (mostly for me) I tend to give the benefit of the doubt to all things. I intend on seeing the good prior to the bad. I cannot imagine having a different outlook than what I do.  I have allowed myself to be open to change, disappointment, and even sadness. Most of these things that I have protected myself from for a very long time because none of those things are in my top ten things to experience bucket list; yet, I understand that these are all part of life and to fully live - sometimes there are let downs that we have to experience. There really is so much to be happy and thankful for and I believe for many a change in their perception could change everything. Then I have to take a step back and wonder - is that just my perception or is it a reality?

Whatever the case, I enjoy living a positive, up-lifting, and humble existence. I hope that you do as well.

2015 prep

With all of the craziness that is what I call my life right now, I feel like I blinked my eyes and December is almost gone and I am facing another year head on. Going with my mantra, "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail" I think it is best going into a new year (or even a new month or week) with a goal or at least a plan of things I'd like to accomplish. I refuse to call them resolutions. I think those are made to be broken.

So here are my big picture goals for 2015 that I will make baby steps for each month:

1. Have at least $15,000 saved.

2. I'd love to do a blogging challenge that covers the entire year, do you know of one?

3. Grow my blog to 500 readers.

4. Gain at least 3 stamps in the passport.

5. Kick the soda habit.

6. Learn the Arabic basics.

So what is your plan for 2015?

Pissy Pants, Party of 1

Ever have one of those moments in life where you just want to have the freedom to be pissed? I don't mean just down. I'm talking a legit, just in a bad, cranky, I'm gonna throw a temper tantrum, melt down like a mother mood? Well a friend and I were having this conversation because we both can have some annoyance (see: slam it into turbo bitch) moments where we just need to be mad. However, we found through this quite comical conversation that there is always that one altruistic person who enters with some feel good cliche that is a good nature attempt at trying to make someone feel better, but damn it if they don't just piss you off even more. Some examples for your reference:

"It just wasn't meant to be" - While this a nice thought, I want to know why the hell not?

"Something better will come along" - I hate that. I am fully aware that something better or comparable will come along but I am a busy girl with shit to get done. Now would have been nice. Yes, now is a good time for me.

"They really missed out on you" - Apparently, they are not reeling from this alleged loss. Had I been a great choice I would have won.

"It just wasn't in the plan" - There was a plan? Why did I not see the "plan" so I would have been able to plan accordingly.

"You'll be such a stronger person after this" - If I wanna be strong, I'll increase my weights. Kay..thanks.

"You just have to be knocked down a few times." - Who thinks that saying this will help anyone?! I mean really, that is the best you've got?

I definitely think that sometimes a supporter just needs to be present. Silence is sometimes the best remedy to fix a piss poor mood and it is just nice to have someone be present, but not throwing an opinion or advice; they are just there to be supportive. Are you a vocal supporter or a silent rock for people? Have you ever thought about it?

Finish the sentence: Link Up

I found this link up over at Where we can live like Jack & Sally and I figured heck.. why not!

If I had one extra hour in the day... I could find even more social media and/or blog sites to lose my time into.

I wish my name... was a little more popular. I mean, can I get some cute stationary that is pre-printed? Perhaps a cup?

I think anything chevron is... really cute, but definitely not sure about Chevron clothing. I mean that is a pretty darn bold pattern - at least for pretty plus gals.. but I could be wrong.

My last nightmare... involved my boxing trainer beating the crap outta me because I just wasn't paying attention. I mean jab, block, hook - it was like I couldn't move my arms. It definitely stepped my game up today in the ring during training.

Sometimes... I wonder what it would be like to really say what I thought to people. Everyone says honesty is the best policy, but let's get real. Who wants to hear the truth ALL the time? Everyone knows the truth, they just don't always want to hear it.

My last meal on earth would be... A turkey hoagie from Wawa & a Rita's Water Ice

I would much rather... have a tooth drilled on than touch or come near a frog.

Mayonnaise... I miss eating it. But this diet says oh hellllll nawwww!

10 years ago, I didn't think... that AOL instant messenger would ever not be part of my everyday life. Hello, who remembers away messages? They were SO important.

Selfishly... I am OVER THE MOON excited about my trip to Los Angeles this weekend. I have always wanted to go!!

My favorite show on TV right now... Big Brother. Always. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. I swear one day I will apply.

And, George Zimmerman...  I didn't watch the trial nor do I know the facts. While I am educated, I am not even going to pretend to have a law degree like so many are currently pretending to have, so no comment.
